TRAVEL: Food and Wine Trip- Sicily, Southern Italy (Calabria)

FOOD AND WINE TRIP-SICILY, SOUTHERN ITALY CALABRIA

Hi, RESBC Retirees: Here is an update on the Travel Club trip for next year.  We are planning a Food and Wine trip in October 2020 to Sicily and Calabria, Italy, with an extension to Naples. This area of Italy is not the usual touristy area, but it is slowly showing up on travel sites as "the destination" to visit. The April/May 2019 issue of National Geographic Traveler magazine features Calabria on the cover, and inside a great article on the growing appeal of the "Secret Italy".  I provided the basic information on the trip below. Note that the price includes the airfare from LAX. The price will be slightly different if you depart from another city. Please remember that the price will be less for those of you who have previously travelled with us. I also attached the brochure that explains the itinerary. If you are interested in joining us on this trip, please let me know because I want to have a meeting to discuss the details.

What I want to see: This area is famous for Greek and Roman ruins and antiquities.I am very interested in seeing the Bronze Warrior statues in Calabria, the cave dwellings in Matera,the Arch of Trajan, the ruins at Paestum, the lost city of Herculaneum, the WWII Museum, all the incredible opulent churches and architecture, all the incredible art work, etc.

What I want to eat: this tour is load with food/wine experiences.!! I am looking forward to big red wines, incredible cheeses, fresh seafood, Sicilian pastries (nobody is better than the Sicilians at making pastry), gelato, pizza in Naples, pasta, etc.  The tour includes a cooking lesson, of course, and several lunches and dinners.
